About

The platform Casting Screens serves as a digital exhibition space of artistic screencasts – the form of video documentation for our digital lives. This platform investigates multiple questions:

How do artists process and explore digital culture through screen recordings? What is the role and relevance of screencasts as an artistic medium for the depiction of digital culture? In which ways is this relatively young medium being used artistically?

The platform merges the digital exhibition of artworks and theoretical reflections, which examine the topic of Screencasting from various points of view. In these, the different possibilities of interaction between man and machine, the obvious and the speculative in digital works shall become visible.

The platform is an initiative of Klasse Digitale Grafik of HFBK Hamburg led by Prof. Christoph Knoth and Prof. Konrad Renner within the framework of HOOU and was realized by Cora Kehren, Marco Wesche, Benedikt Rottstegge and Jens Schnitzler.

Katharina Merten aka Dorothy Parker is a video producer and DJ. She has realized a dizzying array of projects and flavorful collaborations with a host of interdisciplinary artists. Defying traditional form or description, her work is experienced in a range of settings from the art and literature houses to the theater and club scene. Merten's work has been seen and heard at: Chaos Communication Congress, Dokfest Kassel, Institut für Zukunft, International Women's Film Festival Dortmund/Cologne, KV Kunstverein Leipzig, Mousonturm Frankfurt, Nachtdigital, Schauspiel Leipzig and Skulptur Projekte Münster.

She currently hangs her hat in Berlin.
